homebrew tastetest
First topic message reminder :
I have gone through every coopers homebrew flavour at coles and can confirm that the pale ale is the best by far. Stout isnt bad either.
And at only $20 for 20 litres (including dextrose) is fantastic value for the budget conscious pisshead.
Actually I havent tried the canadian blonde flavour yet. But assuning that's as fruity as canadians Pale Ale is the best
I'm also a homegrown connoisseuir, but dont want to offend the policeman with talk of my illegal seed breeding genius.

Re: homebrew tastetest
Yes mine smells sweet as well. I think it is the hops, but I'm not entirely sure. Mind you they haven't gone bad. I don't normally sniff mine. If they are brewing away happily I leave them and don't take the top off. Having said that I use a few pieces of glad wrap over the top held in place with an o ring so I can easily see what is going on inside. Never actually thought of sniffing them as they were brewing until oldPoxonlips mentioned it.
having said that the variables are huge for different flavours and aromas in brewing. did you steep your hops or boil them. if you boiled them how long for and what hops. How much malt how much dextrose, what yeast and what is the brewing temp. A change in anyone of these will change your beers character, body, taste andr aroma. Given this the variables and number of different beers that could be created are near limitless

Re: homebrew tastetest
I always sniff my brew when its done. Specifically to see if a germs gotten in there.
But I sniff everything before I trust it, which might explain my anti-cunnulingus stand.
I've worked my way through half the batch of pale ale and enhancer1 I brewed a few weeks ago. And its a good beer. Has enough taste and no bad tastes. Also very little sediment, if any came through to the bottle for some reason. Yet the beer is clear.
Didnt use hops or finings on it but did on the next 2 batches which were your recipe.
If anything this batch I'm drinking needs more head and body. Which mayve come if I could have left it a few months. OR maybe use malt instead of dextrose

Question!! Just how active are the majority of your brews while fermenting?
Say counting 1..2..3 so on between vents.

Re: homebrew tastetest
They bubble away excitedly for 2 or 3 days after the yeast comes to life. then it slows down to the very occasional burp for 2 or 3 days. Then i bottle it. I never use hydrometers. I go by time/ ear and nose.
Mine are going at around 20 degrees plus C ( a guestimate) because although I'd prefer to drink DBP's style of slow ferment, I also want to be able to drink it within 3 weeks of making a batch.
I have 2 fermenters going now. with DBP's plastic film under an ORing instead of the bubbling air lock. I'm going on time. About 5 days. You can look inside and see its stopped bubbling. Then open it up and have a sniff, see if its clean. Then the finings and left in the cold for 2 days. Then bottle.

Re: homebrew tastetest
Hey apocalypso, did you end up trying the Grolsch bottles? I had 4 that I had put aside a while ago and used them
when bottling the other nite. Will see how they go.
My only concern was how long the seals would last, until I found this.

Mind you I reckon you would get a few years out of seal unless you left them sitting in the sun
when bottling the other nite. Will see how they go.

Re: homebrew tastetest
I have a very good recipe for homemade lemonade.
I have a feeling that Sir Apoxonhislips would rather enjoy it....provided I held his nose firmly whilst administering the brew.

Re: homebrew tastetest
ive just got a quick lesson in who you guys really are
(numpties)
havent you noticed how at the same time all our rights and freedoms have been eaten away , the freedom to be a perv has been encouraged?
I can't help but think Mistress will be a bad influence here. She reminds me of a girl who wooed me drunk in my youth, before I learnt to look for adams apples.
I dont like her at all

im working on the theory that most of the magic comes from using malt

Tastetest on DBPs pale ale recipe- good looking beer but has a horrible fruity taste.
I wont be using hops again. Unless after drinking 40 odd litres of fruity beer I get a taste for it.

Well I should'nt worry about it if I was you, cos I don't think they'll let you into the slammer with a carton under each arm.

Re: homebrew tastetest
Probably needs a few more weeks in the bottle. How long has it been? 2 or 3 weeks?
I should crack a stubby and have a taste, but mine was in the fridge for a few days before
bottling so is would be a bit greener than yours. I have generally found that a minimum of
6 weeks bottled is best. I like to try and get a few of months on it, but it is hard.

I suppose he could try and hide a bottle. Better put some throw downs in the fridge. They are smaller and won't hurt as much hiding them
Re: homebrew tastetest
Yeah well I've already prep't him for backdooring , so a little practice just to get a feel for what is to come, would'nt do em any harm at all. I'm not so sure about the taste thow...........mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: homebrew tastetest
The batch is green, I suppose. And hasnt been given the justice of a few months. Maybe it will lose the fruity taste.
I cant believe butch would suggest Id go to the slammer for the crime of grocery shopping.
Spill the beans occiffer, how do I assert my common law rights.
Im getting railroaded I tell you, I cant share my pearls of wisdom from prison

Re: homebrew tastetest
Just read this brilliant post on silvercartelstackers and copypasted
My breaking news is that I found out today that NSW parliament has
passed legislation (without royal assent) that Justices of the Peace
must only accept drivers licenses or passports as identification for
stat decs affidavits etc.
Came in force a few weeks ago - april.
Unlawfully in force of course. as all legislation for the past 40 odd
years is. sans royal assent as per our constitution
Effectively ending our last avenue for common law rights. And violating centuries of J.P.s being our contact to those rights.
Not much point having rights if the tools to employ them are taken from us.
For
those who aren;t savvy to the importance of this legislation being
unlawfully enforced. Your government issued ID is in the vatican's roman
law jurisdiction where your word has no weight whatsoever. Affidavits
made in this jurisdiction are worthless.
On the other hand your word in common law has the weight of a soverign and trumps the word of any and all government employees.
We just moved a big step closer to overt slavery to the pope.

Its really quiet simple! You simply stop playing hard ball with them, but still say enough to confirm that your a nutter. Let them think they won and the Beak will give you a slap on the wrist.
Playing the nutter should just come natural to you.
