Re: Yabbies in the dam.
I put the dam in about 2.5 years ago and have never added anything except some silver perch this year.
They are bloody huge. Not sure what the difference is between yabbies and marron will google it. I know
there are a few different names for yabbies, but I think Marron are another breed of yabbie?

O.K. how did they get there then? Google that while your at it. Might be related to the Aberdeen Albatross, or the Scone Cone Man, seen him once when i drove through.

Re: Yabbies in the dam.
They walk, and you don't have to be suckin' a cone to see it.
Last time we had some big rains and there was a lot of water on the
ground the kids found a yabbie walking across the driveway headed
toward the dam. There are yabbies living in my drainage ditch at the front gate.
They bury themselves then when it rains they come out again. After there has
been water in the ditch you can see where they have come out of their holes.
I wonder if birds bring their eggs in.

Re: Yabbies in the dam.
they mustve waltzed over the Nullabor to get in your dam.
they get pretty big and are much better eating than yabbies.
If I was you I'd stick them in a pot and taste test them just to be sure. This could be better luck than winning the perth mint gold coin.
I bought some blue marron but they were really fussy and hard to keep. Maybe your climate is perfect

Re: Yabbies in the dam.
Having a bit of a Google and it appears Marron are only in WA. Marron also appear to have thinner longer nippers,
not big fat ones like yabbies. They are obviously just big fat happy yabbies, who after a while will be big fat happy
yabbies on a plate.

Re: Yabbies in the dam.
I just got wooed into posting at silvercartelstackers.
and now feel guilty.
If you have a few spare dollars DBP you can buy some egged up marron from the website above and he will fly them out to you to throw in your dam.
Itll make alot of sense in 5 years
unless they die like mine did

Re: Yabbies in the dam.
Well I made some Inquiries myself and like you say marron can only be found in W.A. However they are known to walk great distances. You can have an ideal dam with good food and suddenly they'll up stakes and away. Mass migration. Dont worry about Alexisio this conversation is a little over his head. Now talk about your pecker and you wont shut him up.
