unclaimed cash

Post by centralPA on Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:39 pm

Well I hope it works- this time- but I doubt it will. The state has unclaimed cash that went to my late dad. So we shall see.

Re: unclaimed cash

Post by centralPA on Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:54 am

What had happened is when my dad passed- the house taxes were paid twice. This was in 1985. So now $1300 is unclaimed. Mom said- if I can obtain it- I can keep it all and maybe use it to get a car. I told her tho- that I wont accept it all- I would split it in half with her. A few years ago- the family tried to retrieve this money and it was a no go. I think they want my dad to come back from the dead to claim it. Shirley- - when we said the dinner prayer asked for this money. I said- you cant ask God for money. But now there is a problem- suppose I do get the $1300. I should throw my 3 siblings a token amount. They do not need it. Might not accept it. But I am thinking long term- because when mom passes- or other family- I dont want them to begrudge me on this money matter. Like I said tho- they did try and failed to obtain this pay out.

My method- I went to my state reps office for the notary- they will send the documentation in- on official letter head. I could split it 1/2 to me- 1/2 to mom. Or give $100 to each sibling- $500 to mom, and keep $500. I dont want to be pennywise and pound foolish- my sister is the executrix of everybody later... so I have to be the example. I could also split it 5 ways.

Right now there is nothing.

Shirley asked what my dad would want-- he might have said something like- pay the electric pole damage $337, then split the rest 5 ways.

On the pole damage- I complained to the PUC, to my state rep, and applied for a grant to pay for it. We shall see.

LOL.

I have to wonder what those taxes are today. In general- many things of the 80s cost 4x more now.
