No car brakes! Could have killed someone!
So I got my brakes fixed 2 months ago, everything is good, right? WRONG. I seldom go anywhere. Well I had to run an errand last night- and Friday night traffic is heavy... When I went to slow down- I had no brakes. It took 3-4x the distance to stop.
Normally a car would have been in front of me. Remarkable that no accident.
So then I carefully went the other road- home- a less traveled road.
So I was up late all worried- if it is too expensive do I have to junk the car.
I called my brother who is an expert on everything- he said if I can wait until August he will fix it- he lives out of state.
The neighbor took me to get water today. She is willing to take me the few errands that I can not bike to.

Take it back to the mechanic who supposedly fixed them. Surely you have some sort of guarantee, he would of written down the mileage an shit , or did you use a backyard mechanic?

No. He has a shop. I looked in the brake fluid, and it needs quite a bit.
As you recall- I had the brake lines all replaced.

Take it back to him then, if he is a good mechanic he should fix it for you, at least ring him an explain what has happened. Good luck with it .centralPA wrote:No. He has a shop. I looked in the brake fluid, and it needs quite a bit.

Thanks. Part of me really wants to do that. My brother does not "owe" me anything. ...could be the master cylinder. I guess I need to know if the brake lines were done right.
The good thing is there is no hurry. I can do some errands by bike. It is not like when I had to be at work every day.... so yay for that.

PS- my brother is the one who found me this car. I bought it used 8 years ago- and have only replaced the battery, tires, and brake line. Not bad for a 98 chevy.
ooops- he did the brakes for me 5 years ago.

I was going to say take the car back to the mechanic and demand a repair until you said it was 5 years ago.

I took the car back to the mechanic. This could be the front brake line- which was not replaced- the back ones were.
So now I wait.

Re: No car brakes! Could have killed someone!
Yeah- I like when topics are updated.
So after I seen a leak under the drivers seat- I took it to the mechanic.
He had replaced the REAR brake line- not the front.
It will cost $90, and $30 for an oil change.
So $120 I am out the door.
A brake line- one really needs a lift to do it right- so my brother could not have helped out on this.
I am glad I figured out to take it in.
I told him not to hurry since I do not get a check until Monday.

I had gone to the store- when I seen leakage- that told me -- that the mechanic should look at it. Yay
