4 hourly feeds.
Well I thought the whole baby thing was behind me forever. Obviously the gods of sleepless nights had other plans.
One of my ewes lambed this morning, didn't go so well for her. A total uterine prolapse which resulted in her death.
Sorry Apocalypse that was the one I had earmarked for you when the SHTF.
Now I am stuck with an orphaned lamb needing hand feeding every 4 hours. It's okay during the day, but
4 in the morning is a bit rich. Not sure if I will survive this, could end up with post natal depression.
Actually I was feeling a little weepy earlier.

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
Just what we need, another potato on maternity leave. Wait till the little fekker grows teeth, then you'll have every right to complain.
Re: 4 hourly feeds.
If I am feeling his teeth when I'm feeding him that may be the least of my worries.
Re: 4 hourly feeds.
I went through the hunter valley last week. I couldve taken it off your hands. Is there a lamb version of veal?

I don't know. If there is there wouldn't be much of it. Probably get more meat of a fat rabbit.

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
I bought old lambs, butchered whole in Wa. The farmer called them hoggets. There's a whole range of different ages you can eat sheep apparently
Its nice to see how long it takes you to eat the whole animal. Gets you in touch with nature.
Id like to pit myself against a whole cow at some point. See how long it takes to work through it.

With the right dressing and condiments, mutton can pass as old lamb I'm led to believe. Any-one with any experience like to provide a heads up on how this is done?

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
we used to eat mutton all the time, wasn't an issue tasted good and tender. If the sheep has been on good
feed and isn't bashed around or stressed prior to, and at slaughter it should be good.
The way it is cooked can help as well, slow your cooking down a bit. Mutton usually has a richer flavour and darker meat than lamb.
Spring Lamb - 6 weeks to 3 months old.
Lamb - 3 months to 1 year old.
Hogget - 1-2 year old
Mutton - Over 2 year old, generally 3 years.
Mutton should be hung a bit longer than lamb which will also help it to be more tender.
Edit to add Hogget for apocalypso

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
Here are some pictures as I am sure you all are hanging to see them.
It has been a tad cold here lately. Stole one of the daughters knitted doll dresses to help keep him warm. Don't think she was
overly happy about it. Wanted to cut the bottom out so he could pee without wetting his Jacket. Wasn't allowed to.

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
Bloody hell Apocalipso, What is it with you and sheep? I'm not earmarking any more sheep for you.
I earmarked the lamb I was hand feeding for you and it died as well. You are a curse to all sheep I think.
No more or I will have no flock left. You will have to stick to Woolies.

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
Another set of twins arrived this morning. Mother and youngns all good, thank god I didn't mark one for
olespasticlips. Don't want to have to hand feed again.
The neighbour rang me tonight around dinner time and asked if I had lambs on the ground. Yes I said.
He then told me over the last 3 nights he has seen a fox coming out of the paddock as he is coming home.
Bold as you like the fox just sits on the side of our easement and watches him go past, apparently.
Well I thought I best put a stop to that given I have the 2 new ones arrived today. Went and got the sticks
of plenty big noise and went for a drive. You think I could find any foxes. Not a one. Not even a set of eyes.
Drove the paddock, the easement and all the way back up to the main road, no foxes. Mind you my spotty
shit itself and wasn't working so that made it a bit harder. The spotty lives under the seat but I think the
month long trip we recently did on the Simpson Desert, Birdsville and Oodnadatta tracks was to much for it.
Will have to go and buy a new one tomorrow and get the fox whistle out.

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
go to where the neighbour works, get a lift home with him an you will see it too. So simple, why didnt you do that. Now try thinking like a fox. Tie a lamb to a tree, wait an dont go to sleep, bang bang you win.

Re: 4 hourly feeds.
You could invite apoxilips round to stay a couple of nights. He seems to frighten every thing else away.

I dont frighten people. The truth does. It hurts .
I wouldnt mention the sticks here, ASIO follows me like a bad smell online.
You'll find yourself in the hooscow for fox terrorism
