Gumtree Scammers Empty Gumtree Scammers

Post by Dirtbikepilot Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:32 am

Just put the kids bike on Gumtree to sell it. Got a reasonably swift response asking if it was still available. Emailed back that it was.
I got this email back within minutes.

Thanks for the swift response...I am willing to know the
lowest price of it.due to the nature of my job and location...i will
not be able to come for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long
hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied
with it.

As for the payment..i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay online(PayPal).
I
have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the
payment have been made, transferring the name of ownership and signing
of all paperwork will be done by the courier services company agent so
you don't have to worry about that...so no shipping included.

You
can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and also
include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal account,
you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign up.
its very easy.I await your reply asap

My Response:

Sorry no PayPal don't want it. Cash sale only in person outside the
Police station. I bet that is not able to be done is it?
Can't wait to hear your pathetic response. Do you have a cut and
paste response for that?
If your courier has authority to sign they can carry your cash. Go
and scam your mother.

F**king low life piece of shit trying to rip people off. Get a
f**king job and earn it honestly like the rest of us.
should let you send the courier and bash the %#$* , the courier might have been
you ya week f**k.

I know it makes no difference what you say but it felt good. Will wait for response. I should have twigged when his name was Mack Shocked
should have added Gumtree Scammers 783885664to my response above response. Might send a picture of my dick blown up to as bag a file as I can make continually sent to his email until it is closed. Probably should have sent pay pal details and gave him the address to police station. at least they then waste time driving or paying for a courier.

Gumtree Scammers Empty Re: Gumtree Scammers

Post by Dirtbikepilot Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:25 am

Firstly it is a known scam on Gumtree. They then use stolen credit cards and the like and you loose your goods and money or they overpay and demand refund of overpayment or legal action. A few other things they also do. His name was Mack affraid.

there are no transfer papers on kids bikes, they aren't registered. It is cut and paste of a known scam.

Contacted via sms and asked that I contact him by email only. No verbal contact at all. I would not
by a trail bike unseen. that's a lot of faith. I have cut and pasted below a description of this scam for you to have a read.

Since we're doing a great job at keeping rubbish people off the site.
They have taken a different approach and started contacting many of you
directly via the contact details that are visible in your ad like your
mobile phone number. The messages will look and sound similar to below
examples:

"Hello mate, I saw your listing on Gumtree and can you let me know if still on sale...blahblah@live.com.au"

OR

"Hello, I saw your ad. on Gumtree. I'm ready to offer you 20,000AUD
for the vehicle. For quick response, email me at: blahblah2@gmail.com
Smith"

and will have a name in title or numbers that are from overseas, even
local looking with +614 types and are sent via online sms service
providers like "SMS craze" etc.

Gumtree Scammers Sms_fraud_examples

These dodgy people are trying to trick you by sending a fake sms
messages asking to be contacted via email (this should ring alarm bells)
because why would anyone want to be emailed if they're contacting you
via your phone!

The reason; they want to get you communicating over email because
then they can open up their word document and google translator to copy
and paste their prepared scripts and will even throw in a bit of aussie
slang like "mate" to sound like a true blue local aussie and within the
communication they will then give you a story that they're on some
important mission saving the world and can’t call you because their km's
underground or off on a oil rig, serving as a doctor on the new strand
of the swine flu epidemic, saving the famished in africa and on and on -
you get the idea, they'll give you any excuse not to meet up with you
because they're actually on the other side of the world in an internet
cafe (that's why unfortunately some of our users receive SMS messages in
the middle of the night)

Next step is that they'll also offer you several hundred even
thousands of dollars more than you’ve asked for because they apparently
love/really want your car, furniture, horse, diamond ring etc for their
sister, cousin, brother somewhere around the world and would rather like
their shipping agent or courier to pick it up, but of course there is a
catch! They'll ask if you have a PayPal account and if not they'll want
you to create one. Once you've done that they'll send a genuine looking
PayPal receipt that shows the “extra amount”; this is to trick you to
believe that they've deposited cash into your account and want or even
sometimes demand that you wire a shipping fee via western
union/moneygram or even they'll threaten you by saying they'll get the
federal police involved, but we all know that such requests are fake and
harmless; so you simply need to ignore them!

Since we always encourage anyone using Gumtree to meet in person and
never send or wire money to someone that you don’t know, you simply need
to keep this tip in mind and take the right precautions then there
shouldn't be any problems. What they’re simply trying to do is play out
the classic “overpayment scam”, this is so they can get their hands on
your money for something you’re trying to sell - ludicourous right? they
want you to send money for something you're selling it doesn't make
sense!

What we advise is to simply ignore such sms messages and report it to
us. If you are annoyed by such messages please instead remove your
contact details from your ad “we know this is inconvenient” but then you
can opt to receive replies only via email communication and then, when
you’re sure that you are dealing with a genuine person, you could
exchange details and organize a time and a place to meet up.

Again we’re sorry for such inconvenience however rule of thumb while
using Gumtree is to meet up with the person your comminucating with, the
good old fashioned way, face to face! If you have any questions or need
clarification simply click that "contact us" button just below in the
footer and we can help with any questions you might have.

Well you live and learn. I buy round 50 cents from gumtree. I send the money to their bank and get them to post them. Never had a problem.
I saw a thread oewhere about tax. and asking them if its ok. Don't ask the ATO whats ok. Tell them. Theyll walk all over you otherwise.

Yeh I know. It just pisses me off. These people take advantage of the vulnerable uniformed and trusting.
Sadly this is generally the elderly. They are just leeches within our society and should be treated as such.
They don't give 2 fucks how their actions may affect someone else, they destroy lives with what they do.
They deserve slow and painful deaths.

No I have never been scammed. She was a girl, I don't care what anyone says Suspect

You called Woman? I'm starting to feel privileged getting so much of your attention. Sort of feels like I'm being stalked though. Your going to have to stop it or else people will start talking.

On a serious note, good email response DBP. A pity his/her template message took a minuscule of effort compared to your response. I do think the idea of a picture of your dick blown up is a pearler. Now that would be a legendary response and sure to get the message through at the other end. And if you don't want your old fella profiled..... Smile .... do like everyone else and try a google image alter-identity shot.
