Silver Certificates Empty Silver Certificates

Post by fukushima Wed May 23, 2012 6:37 am

I've got a small quantity (9) of 1957 US $1 Silver Certificates arriving, they are the type that has "ONE DOLLAR IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND" printed on them. They are in VG/VF condition, are not rare, but harken back to a time when Government issued currency was backed by metals.

I reckon they are a unique insight into the travesty that is our current fiat system. I bought 10 and am keeping one for posterity's sake. They are cheaper than US gold certificate dollars and Australian pre-decimal "gold bearing" notes, but they explain the same sad story of our modern day fiat currencies.

If you want one let me know and I'll keep it aside for you. $5 will cover the $1 dollar note as well as postage and my fuel to the post box. I'm just gonna stick it in a small envelope with a 60c stamp, so there's no guarantees or refunds if it gets lost. Of course if you want registered then pay for it. Let me know and I'll PM you my bank details when they arrive.

This image is just a stock image. clown

Only for face value ie $1, the yanks past an act a while back which prevented any silver or gold certificates being redeemable in metal. But you can use still it to by lollies, condoms and Captain Marvel comics.

on June 24, 1967, President Johnson signed into law a bill that spelled the end of silver certificate redemption.

Shit missed out again, I was just about to pounce with a low ball offer that you couldn't refuse, having waited
a strategically selected amount of time.
